The socket is the sleeve located between the patient's prosthesis and the stump. Body integrity is ensured by entering the stump into the socket. Sockets in all prostheses below the knee or on the knee are made by taking a plaster cast from each patient. After various measurements and plaster impressions are taken, expert prosthetic technicians prepare the plaster mold for casting by processing it in accordance with the stump. Carbon sockets are made for all patients in our center for casting. Since carbon is both light, flexible and durable, the patient uses the socket without any problems and feels confident.
Next to the socket, a material made of 3 mm silicone, called a silicone liner or gel liner, is used, which can be thought of as wearing socks in shoes, depending on the stump size of the patient. The patient puts on a silicone liner or gel liner before wearing the prosthesis, then attaches the prosthesis to the stump.
